Walmart's rules are strict, so it helps to know them before you shop. Here's what Walmart's own pages say.
Price match: in store only, and only Walmart.com
In a Walmart U.S. store, Walmart will match the price of the identical item on Walmart.com. That's it.
- Tell the cashier the lower price at checkout.
- The item has to be in stock and for sale on Walmart.com at that moment.
- Walmart can limit it to one per customer, per item, per day. The store manager on duty has the final say.
Walmart does not match: other stores' prices, online or in store. Walmart.com special-event prices like Rollbacks, clearance and Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals. Marketplace and third-party sellers. Other Walmart stores. Bundles, rebates, and ads with no set price. Walmart.com prices can't be matched in Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.
Online orders: Walmart.com doesn't price match at all. If you buy online and the price drops later, Walmart says it won't adjust it.
Walmart+
Walmart+ costs $98 a year or $12.95 a month, plus tax. Right now Walmart offers a 30-day trial for $1. You pay $1, and when the trial ends it renews on the plan you picked unless you cancel. Walmart says it doesn't give refunds on Walmart+.
- Free delivery from your store on orders of $35 or more.
- Free shipping from Walmart.com with no minimum. Most Marketplace items don't count.
- Gas: 10 cents off a gallon at participating Walmart, CITGO, Exxon, Mobil and Murphy stations, plus member prices at Sam's Club fuel. It's 5 to 10 cents in Alabama.
- Streaming: pick one ad-supported service, Peacock Premium or Paramount+ Essential. You can switch every 90 days. It needs a separate sign-up.
- Free pharmacy delivery with no minimum, and free returns picked up from home in some areas.
- Early access to hot online deals for Black Friday. Walmart says this is for paid members only.
Walmart also sells Walmart+ with Sam's Club Plus together for $120 a year.
Half price for students and people on assistance
Walmart+ Student (college and grad students) and Walmart+ Assist (SNAP, WIC, Medicaid and more) cost $6.47 a month or $49 a year. Both start with a free 30-day trial. You have to verify that you qualify. Walmart says the Assist check doesn't affect your benefits.
Walmart's Black Friday dates
- Early Black Friday Deals: November 12 to 15. Online at 12:01 a.m. ET, in stores at 6 a.m. local time.
- Black Friday Deals: November 23 to 29. Online November 23, in stores November 27 at 6 a.m.
- Cyber Monday: November 30 to December 2, online.
Walmart+ members get early access to hot deal drops, and what's left opens to everyone the next day.
Walmart Cash
Walmart Cash is store credit you earn by claiming Manufacturer Offers in the app or on Walmart.com, then buying those items. If you paid in store some other way, scan your receipt in the app. It can take up to 48 hours. You can spend it at Walmart, or cash it out at a MoneyCenter once you have at least $25. You need ID, and there are daily, weekly and monthly limits. If you return the item, Walmart takes the Walmart Cash back.
Returns
- Most items: 90 days.
- Consumer electronics and most Marketplace items: 30 days. Most wireless phones: 14 days. Major appliances: 2 days.
- Holiday: most items bought October 1 to December 31 can be returned until January 31. Exceptions include wireless phones, protection plans, major appliances, Dyson products and some seasonal and luxury items.
My tip: since Walmart won't adjust online prices later, I'd only buy early from Walmart if I'm fine with the price as is. For price drop protection, see the Target guide and the Black Friday playbook.
