Amazon has a few cheap ways into Prime, and a few rules that surprise people. Here's what Amazon's own pages say right now.
Prime trials and discounts

- Amazon says the young adult trial is "courtesy of Grubhub" and includes full Prime plus 5% cash back on eligible items.
- Every plan renews and charges you automatically when the trial ends. Set a reminder if you only want the trial.
Amazon won't refund a price drop
Amazon's help page says it compares prices itself, and "as a result, we don't offer price matching compensation." So if you buy something and the price drops the next day, Amazon doesn't promise you the difference.
There's one exception. The Pre-order Price Guarantee covers items that aren't out yet, are sold by Amazon.com, and show the guarantee message on the product page. You pay the lowest Amazon price between your order and the end of release day.
My tip: since there's no price protection, check the price history before you buy. Amazon says its Alexa for Shopping assistant can show up to a year of a product's price history and set price alerts.
Subscribe & Save
- Some items get a discount when you subscribe. The discount shows on the product page, and it can change.
- Amazon says you can save up to 15% when you get 5 or more products in one auto-delivery to one address.
- Auto-deliveries ship free. Non-Prime members may pay shipping on the first delivery.
- The price can go up or down between deliveries, but it won't be higher than the price in your reminder email.
- You can cancel any time. You can't pay with a SNAP EBT card.
My tip: watch for the reminder email. If the price went up, skip that delivery or cancel.
Returns
- Most items: 30 days from delivery.
- Apple products sold new: 15 days.
- Amazon Haul: items over $3 have 15 days. Haul items $3 and under are final sale.
- Late returns can cost 20% of the price, then the full price after 30 more days. Bulky items and unusual return rates can bring fees too.
Holiday 2026: Amazon posted a notice to its sellers saying items bought November 1 to December 31, 2026 can be returned until January 31, 2027. Apple products can be returned until January 15, 2027. Amazon's shopper help page hadn't shown the 2026 dates yet when I checked. Always go by the "return by" date in Your Orders.
